Insulation monitoring
Early detection of insulation faults
In PV installations, the generation of energy with as
few interruptions as possible and a related high return are in the foreground.
The IT system (unearthed power supply) with insulation
monitoring is the first choice for the type of system for the installation, as
this is the only type of system in which a first (insulation) fault will not
result in shutdown.
With the transformer in the inverter or the (medium
voltage) transformer arranged outside the inverter, the essential prerequisite
for the IT system is met – electrical isolation in relation to the grid side,
such that there is no active conductor on the DC side connected to earth.
For the continuous monitoring of the insulation
resistance between the active conductors and earth, a series iso-PV insulation
monitoring device (A-ISOMETER®) is used. Degradations in the insulation are
then detected at an early stage, however the system remains in operation. The
A-ISOMETER®s in the iso-PV series comply with the requirements of IEC 61557-8
and are specifically intended for use in PV installations, e.g. high system
leakage capacitances or slow voltage changes
